Edmodo
website: Edmodo.com Overview: Edmodo is an online networking application for teachers and students. Think Facebook, but in a safe and controlled environment appropriate for school. How we used it: Each member of Tech Club signed up for a free Edmodo account. Students were responsible for logging into Edmodo at the beginning of each Tech Club meeting. They would find the daily objectives, pre-work, and instructions for the day's activity on Edmodo. Students turned in work on Edmodo, thus sharing their work with their peers. They could then provide peer feedback and kudos to each other. |

Students were then given individual research topics and were instructed to share the key information gathered through the voki. Vokis were shared via edmodo.com, allowing each student the opportunity to view the Vokis during class or on their own time. |

Students were then challenged to find common words among wordles and to identify the most unique or rare word used. Net Smartz
website: http://www.netsmartz.org/Resources Overview: NetSmartz is a program of The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The website provides information for parents, students, and teachers regarding internet safety. How we used it: Lesson plans were linked to Edmodo. Students were assigned to view videos prior to meeting during Technology Club. During Tech Club meetings, we discussed the pros and cons of technology. We also discussed ways to ensure internet safety for each other individually as well as a Tech Club. |
This is one of the first videos shared with Tech Club. 6 Degrees of Information shows students how easily someone can gather specific information, such as location, age, and school, based off of information they share on the internet, such as social media sites. This video really opened our students eyes to how much personal information is readily available to the world.
